SCREENING

Coarse Separator

JOEST Coarse Separators are specifically designed for the pre-classification of heavy bulk materials with predominantly large particle sizes. They are used in various industries – from raw material processing to recycling. Depending on the application, primarily linear vibrating screens are used; in special cases, circular vibrating screens are also applied.

Whether solid grizzly bars, flexible rod decks, or perforated plates – the machines are precisely configured to match the material characteristics and separation cut. The different machine series such as GRIZZLY, Stabrofix, or Stabroflex are designed to withstand the most demanding conditions involving high mechanical loads and to ensure long service life.

With proven drive technology, maintenance-friendly design, and a wide range of configuration options, JOEST Coarse Separators provide an ideal solution for pre-screening and relieving downstream crushers or other subsequent process steps.

JOEST Coarse Separators are used for the efficient separation of coarse or unwanted materials from the material flow – typically upstream of crushers, screens, or conveyor systems. Depending on the application, linear or circular vibratory motions are employed, generated by unbalance motors, directed exciters, or shaft drives. The choice of drive technology is based on the feed material and specific local conditions.

A central component is the screen deck, which consists of robust elements such as grizzly bars, perforated plates, or flexible rod decks. These screening media are particularly resistant to coarse, heavy, or blocky feed material and ensure reliable classification with minimal wear.

Thanks to their directed motion and rugged design, the conveying performance remains consistent even with highly variable feed material, while blockages and material bridges are reliably avoided.

In practice, JOEST Coarse Separators are often used as pre-separators upstream of crushers, shredders, or downstream classification systems – relieving the crushing process and increasing the efficiency of subsequent systems.

The modular screen decks are equipped with particularly robust screening surfaces – depending on the type, with grizzly bars (GRIZZLY), fixed rod decks (Stabrofix), or flexible finger decks (Stabroflex). These screen surfaces enable efficient pre-classification of coarse, sticky, or heavily contaminated material without clogging. Optionally, perforated plates or combined screening systems can also be used.

JOEST Coarse Separators are available in various lengths, widths, and heights and can be easily integrated into existing systems thanks to their modular design. Their high mechanical durability, maintenance-friendly construction, and reliable separation performance make them the ideal solution for high throughput volumes and extreme operating conditions – whether in quarries, recycling facilities, or metal and raw material processing.

COARSE SEPARATOR

Fields of Application

JOEST Coarse Separators are used wherever coarse, heavy, or irregular components need to be reliably removed from the material flow. As robust pre-separators, they protect downstream equipment such as crushers, shredders, or sorting units from overload, improve process stability, and increase the overall system efficiency – even under the most challenging operating conditions.

INDIVIDUALLY CONFIGURABLE

Equipment Options

To ensure seamless integration into your process, JOEST Coarse Separators offer numerous configuration options – designed to be robust, flexible, and optimized for maximum service life.

GRIZZLY (rigid), Stabrofix (fixed), or Stabroflex (flexible) – selectable based on material behavior, feed characteristics, and clogging tendency.

Depending on the application, the machine is driven linearly or circularly – adapted to the feed material, available space, and desired screening performance.

Unbalanced motors, oil-lubricated exciter cells, or exciter shafts – the drive systems are selected based on machine size and feed requirements.

The screen box can be mounted at an angle – the inclination is adjusted according to material flow, cut size, and discharge behavior.

For simple or staged coarse separation, machines can be equipped with single or multiple decks – ideal for variable particle size distribution.

Instead of grizzly bars, robust perforated plates or hybrid screening systems can be used – particularly suitable for specific particle shapes or sticky materials.

For sensitive environments or dusty materials, covers, spray guards, or integrated dust extraction connections can be added.

Impact surfaces and linings can be equipped with highly wear-resistant components – ideal for abrasive or sharp-edged feed materials.
